In Forza Horizon 6, motor swaps aren’t just a flashy garage feature—they’re a game-changer for unlocking your car’s full potential. By swapping engines, you can push your vehicles beyond their stock limits, dominate new Performance Index (PI) classes, and experiment with builds that simply weren’t possible before. But a successful motor swap is about more than raw horsepower; understanding how engine choices affect weight, balance, and PI efficiency is crucial to building a truly competitive ride.
Key Performance Strategy
When planning a motor swap, these core principles will help you maximize results:
Prioritize Power-to-Weight Ratio (PWR): FH6 now emphasizes the efficiency of your car’s PWR over just peak horsepower. A smaller, lighter engine may outperform a massive V12 if it keeps your chassis balanced and responsive.
Watch Weight Distribution: Larger engines shift mass forward, which can negatively affect handling. Always consider front-to-rear weight balance, especially if you plan to tackle twisty roads or off-road tracks.
Mind PI Efficiency: The game has rebalanced engine swap PI costs. Classic meta engines like the 6.2L V8 may no longer offer the same bang-for-your-PI, so weigh each engine’s cost against the performance gains.
Check the Conversion Tab: All swap options live in the Upgrade Shop’s Conversion menu. Here, you can see specialized engines available for your chassis, including some that may be hidden until unlocked through gameplay progression.
Unlocking Hidden Vehicles
Motor swaps also tie into discovering some of FH6’s rare and secret cars. To access these vehicles:
Car Mastery Skill Trees: Certain high-performance swaps are only available after fully upgrading a car’s skill tree. For example, completing the 2014 Porsche 918 Spyder tree can unlock the 2003 Porsche Carrera GT for use in motor swaps.
Treasure Cars: FH6 hides nine special vehicles across Japan. These cars are unlocked by following postcard clues in your Cars menu and tracking down their locations on the map. These rare finds often come with unique engine configurations that can drastically change your garage builds.
Building Your Perfect Swap
Once you’ve unlocked your engine options, experiment with different combinations. Some swaps are ideal for drag racing and top-speed runs, while others excel in tight rally stages or endurance races. Keep these tips in mind:
Test each swap in different PI brackets to see how your car’s handling and acceleration respond.
Balance power upgrades with suspension, brakes, and tire mods to maintain control.
Save multiple tune profiles for each swap to adapt quickly to different race types.
