Getting Pounds of Flesh in Diablo 4 is one of those endgame chores that sounds simple until you actually start doing it. You're not just picking up another random material. You're farming a key resource tied to tougher Bloodied content, boss access, and the kind of Diablo 4 Items that can push a build from "pretty good" to properly dangerous. Most players won't need to worry about it while levelling, but once you're settled into Torment and your build can take a hit, Pounds of Flesh become worth chasing.

What Pounds of Flesh are used for

Pounds of Flesh are a boss material linked to the Butcher's Hoard, found inside The Broiler in Gea Kul. This isn't the random Butcher who barges into a dungeon and ruins your day. This version is built as a planned endgame fight, with more pressure, nastier mechanics, and less room for lazy play. You'll need the material to open the way to his rewards, so it's basically your ticket into one of the season's more valuable loot checks. If your goal is unique gear, stronger build options, or just another serious test for your character, this material matters.

Where the material comes from

The main source is Bloodied activity. That usually means special Nightmare Dungeons, Infernal Hordes, or lair-style boss content affected by Bloodied modifiers. To get into those runs, you'll need Bloodied Sigils or Blood-Soaked Sigils. A normal Bloodied Sigil pushes enemies above your current Torment level, so even familiar dungeons can feel rough fast. Blood-Soaked Sigils are a bigger jump. They're meant for players with tight builds, capped defenses, solid damage, and enough game sense to move before things go wrong. Don't burn your best sigils just to prove a point. If a run takes too long or costs too many deaths, drop back and farm faster.

How to farm the sigils

Bloodied and Blood-Soaked Sigils can drop from enemies in Torment difficulties, with better odds as you move higher. Seasonal caches are also worth opening, especially if you're already doing board objectives or other repeatable tasks. Nightmare Dungeons remain a practical choice because you can pick up glyph progress, gold, salvage, and possible sigils in the same loop. A lot of players make the mistake of farming one thing in isolation. It's usually better to stack goals. Run content that gives you a shot at sigils while also improving your gear, masterworking materials, or gold pile.

Another route through Kurast Undercity

You can also chase Pounds of Flesh through Kurast Undercity runs when using a Tribute of Titans. It's a decent option if you're tired of dungeon grinding or want a broader spread of boss materials. The catch is simple: the reward pool is split. You may walk away with useful keys, but not always the exact amount of Pounds of Flesh you wanted. Still, it's not wasted time. If your character clears Undercity quickly, this method can keep your farming fresh and help you build up several boss attempts instead of tunnel-visioning one encounter.

Making the grind worth your time

The best way to farm Pounds of Flesh is to stay honest about your clear speed. A safe, fast Torment run often beats a messy higher-tier run that drains potions and patience. Bring mobility, keep your resistances and armor sorted, and don't ignore single-target damage, since the Butcher encounter will punish weak boss pressure. His hoard can drop build-changing uniques such as Blood-Mad Idol, Wendigo Brand, Wyrdskin, Rustbitten Dirk, and Thousand-Eyed Reaver, so planning your farming around the d4 gear you actually want will save time and make each run feel less random.
